We all know that corvettes fly, but this month's featured couple can prove it! Meet Bob and Barbara Pons. Barbara and Bob are another pair of transplants. Barb is from Indianapolis, Indiana and Bob is from Philadelphia, PA. For Barbara, being from the land of the BRICKYARD, it’s only natural for her to have been and still be car crazy. She has owned two Corvettes prior to the wine red '74 beauty that they own today. Barb's first Corvette was a '69 with an extreme  custom
paint scheme and then the infamous Flying white '77. Now, she says she was a
self taught driver and got her lessons by "borrowing" Mom's car from
the driveway when mom wasn't home. Then she tells me of the days of the flying
Vette. Let's make a long story short...heavy foot, road swell, bridge, airborne,
and one lucky young lady! Fortunately the landing gear had been deployed and all
survived with minimal damage...except the driver’s seat. That had to be
replaced because it was a mess after that experience! Barb is the mother
of three and has 4 grandchildren. She is now enjoying retirement form a career
as a store detective.
Bob, after a four year stint with the Air Force, landed a career and after 21 years retired from Manufacturers' Hanover Bank...only to start working again and retiring again form Citicorp. Bob's a hands on kind of guy. He has a knack for anything mechanical...wood working, plumbing, and electric. He can do it all. As a matter of fact, the '74 Vette that they now drive was a four year project for him. It was bought in a box and resurrected right in the homestead's garage. One of Bob's favorite cars was his first...a '57 blue and white Poncho. He has an extensive collection of record albums and Lionel trains that date back to the '40's. He is the father of two and has two grandkids. Barb and Bob met each other at a wedding...Bob's daughter's wedding. One year later, it was time for these two to exchange the nups. Talents are not limited to the ground for either of these two. Barbara likes flying her cars and Bob is a certified SCUBA diver. When you are at one of the club functions, say hello to Bob and Barbara. You'll not run out of things to talk about.
